Bad Ideas

Bad Idea #1: Buy Bernat Eyelash yarn at BigLots.
Bad Idea #2: Decide to make something with Bad Idea #1.
Bad Idea #3: Put Bad Idea #1 in work bag.
Bad Idea #4: Crochet while walking down the street.

Crocheting while I walk down the street is normal for me. However, since the ball of Eyelash yarn is smaller than the acrylic yarns I usually use, it fits in my work bag. So I am walking home from the bus stop after work yesterday, crocheting.

I begin to wonder "Why is my yarn so tight all of a sudden?" I look down and notice that the yarn seems to be caught on my coat. So I try to un-catch it. Then I noticed what was really going on.

The yarn had fallen OUT of my bag, and had trailed out about 10 feet behind me!

So that's why they call it that...

Come to my place of employment, and you could witness a common scene, which would be me with my yarn and crochet hook at the lunch table whipping out my latest WIP.

Scenario 1
Generic Co-worker: "I didnt know you knew how to knit."
Me: "I don't - yet. This is crochet"

Scenario 2
Generic Co-worker: "What are you knitting?"
Me: "Nothing. But I am crocheting this cute insert project name here."

Sigh.

I got a Stitch n Bitch knitters calendar from a friend at work. The only problem is that I don't know how to knit.

I've been planning on learning the fine art of knitting. I can now cast on. The knit stitch, however... Well, let's just say that now I know why it's called Stitch n Bitch. Grrrrrrrrr

There is hope! Here is a site that has video to help those of us knittingly challenged!! I'm going to knit that stitch yet!!

Swap: Dollar Store Swap Round 3 SENT

Dollar Store Swap Round 3 Gallery

I have the best swap partner EVER!! Gishygoo is going to be married soon, has two kitties and likes primary colors, bags, hanging picture frames, and unique refrigerator magnets.

List of supplies from the Dollar Store:

  1. Ugly photo album
  2. Cream colored fleece scarf
  3. Cream colored tassel ornaments
  4. Gold glitter glue sticks (ignore the silver ones in the pic)
  5. Large clear marble magnets
  6. Plain wooden heart plaque
  7. Window shaped frame
  8. Plain Frame
  9. Pearl Bracelet
  10. White Tulle circles

A photo album that could be used as is, or as part of a centerpiece or decoration.

The heart was purposely left “unfinished”. I thought she might like to personalize it. (Those arent candies, they're heart shaped marbles!!)

Some pretty little accessories. (I bought a pearly bracelet matched nicely with the fabric covered items.) I made three sets of earrings.

“Save the Date” set of magnets, and a fabric covered one. (sorry about the blurry pic)

My personal fave - a handpainted Rose Garden Window frame that makes me think of my own rose garden. The red tulle is supposed to be like sheer curtains.

I used some leftover silky material that has an Oriental feel to it to jazz up this frame.

How to identify a UFO

What is a UFO?

A UFO is an UnFinished Object. Usually pertaining to crafty objects of any medium that will sit waiting patiently to become a beautiful piece of work. This term can also be applied to non-crafty projects.

You might have a UFO if:
  • You cannot tell what the UFO is supposed to look like anymore, because you have been off on other crafty ventures.
  • You have a craft area/house from hell because you have so many UFOs.
  • You keep calling them WIP (Works in Progress) because it sounds better than UnFinished Object.
  • You have several projects started, each in its own bag.
  • Each UFO project bag has everything needed to finish said project, including instructions and a picture of the finished project.
  • You expect your children to finish those projects should you meet an untimely demise

"Commissioned" Crochet Pumpkin

I was recently asked to make a little treat bag for a friend. She wants her brother to know that she was thinking of him.

I used a variation of this pattern. I was already halfway done with it when I realized I had the wrong sized hook. I just kept going because it's a few days before Halloween, and I don't know if I will see my friend before then.

Swap: Sweet Treats Round 3 SENT

My swap partner likes fancy chocolates, white cake cupcakes, frosted sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies, and toffees. She would like to receive some sweet notecards w/ envelopes; pincushions filled w/ sand or steel wool or something to keep needles sharp; soaps; ornaments, bags or containers, or really, anything fun, funky or pretty!

Edit: This swap proved to be challenging, as well as educational. I learned all about my new sewing machine, and that I don't like working with silky type material.

We have both received our packages from each other!

Swap: Dollar Store Swap Round 2 SENT

How can life get any sweeter? Two things that I love have been brought together in a rich, creamy blend of heavenly goodness. The Dollar Store and crafting. There are two very teensy little things that I have a problem with:
  1. I can only spend $10 - very difficult for a dollar store addict to do!
  2. I can only send three things.

Dollar Store Swap Round 2 Gallery

Now that I have that off my chest, on with the show! I really do hope she likes everything! It's different because I don't personally know her. Family and friends always feel obligated to like what I make. I tell them they can tell me the truth. I WANT THE TRUTH!! I CAN HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!

It is made with patterned felt, and then beaded.
